Hello! Introduce my name is Muhammad Ajrin, I work as a Freelancer product designer. Some time ago I had the opportunity to do an ixnternship at a company engaged in education, along with 2 other team members (mas faiz and mas Reyhan). we were asked to create an interface for an online learning platform. and in this article is a continuation of the design process that I have done before. Usability testing is part of my UI/UX case study. If you’d like to see the full UI/UX case study, you can click on the link below:

Here : Designing E-learning Platform for Company service Expansion — UIX Project

Overview

Media Cipta Prestasi is a company engaged in educational services, while the flagship programs for creating achievement media are educational tours, intelligent training, and event organizers that focus on character education, life skills, and soft skills. Currently, company sees high interest in online learning as an opportunity to participate in implementing digital learning, this is due to the COVID-19 outbreak which limits people from socializing and because of these limitations, people who tend to study offline are quite difficult to learn. meet their learning needs.

Therefore, Company aims to build a digital learning platform that is acceptable to users, besides that the company has also collaborated with several parties to participate in presenting classes that are useful for users.

This research focuses on getting feedback from users with the aim of finding out what features can be improved and the perceived pain points based on user experience when using a prototype that has been made previously. the usability testing method is carried out to evaluate new designs for class search activities, check class details, make class purchases, and check wishlists and cartlist lists on the platform.

The Objective

● Identify user behavior when searching for classes and checking the details of the desired class

● Identify user behavior when making product purchases on the e-learning platform

● Identify user behavior when adding preferred products to wishlist

Sample Specification

  1. E — learning active users (access e — learning at least in the last 1 month)
  2. Women / Men
  3. 14–30 years old
  4. Someone who has accessed/used an e-learning platform

Conduct Usability Testing

The UT process is carried out online using zoom media during the pandemic. Participants share their screens while using our prototype.

Prototype

The prototype was created using Figma. To see the prototype of the E-learning Platform application, you can try it here:

Task Given

I asked the user to perform the following tasks. I did this by giving the scenario “You are a beginner looking for IELTS classes, please explore this app and show us how you search until you finally buy the class using the virtual account method.”

Each participant is given 3 tasks in completing the UT, as for the tasks scenario referred to as follows:

● Task 1: Trying to find a class based on the search bar feature and Viewing the class detail

● Task 2: Add class to card list And complete payment

● Task 3: Explore the Course menu, webinars and books on the online learning platform

Timeline (Session outline & timing) — 55 menit

  • Introduction to the session (2 menit)
  • Background Interview (3 menit)
  • Tasks (30 menit)
  • Post — test debriefing (20 menit)

Summary Insight

  • Task 1 — Find a class based on the search bar feature and Viewing the class detail
Search Course Experience

All users managed to complete the task without any problems, they thought that the ba search in the header was very easy to find apart from using the filter feature, they were quite helpful because they could search for more specific classes, only displaying classes by expanding the classes individually. vertical is quite a hassle as the user has to scroll more and quite a distance later if they want to go back to using filters.

Check Detail kelas Experience

At this stage, the user does not find it difficult to access the class detail page and most of the users think that the information conveyed is very clear and features such as class descriptions, tutor info, ratings and reviews are very helpful.

  • Task 2— Add class to card list And complete payment
Payment Process

Some users at this stage think that the popups displayed on this page are quite annoying because they block the interface on the platform, besides that the popups displayed take up quite a lot of space so they are less interesting to look at.

  • Task 3— Explore the Course menu, webinars and books on the online learning platform
Exploring Product

All users can do their work well here and have no problems, besides that some users think that providing search options can give them many choices when the class they are looking for is not available.

Design Recomendations

After doing the UT process, I made design improvements based on the recommendations in the task.

Design Recomendation

Before UT:

In the previous design solution, the user thought that displaying the class vertically would be a little inconvenient because you have to scroll far enough if you already display too many search results

After UT:

Based on the pain point, I changed the showmore button to pagination, so local users can do multiple searches but still on the same pageview, without having to bother scrolling the page too far

That’s it, thanks for reading! Feel free to leave a like or comment. I’m also open for further discussion, just ping me out :)
